Why did TK Grace leave The Scene?

TK Grace, April 1997 – “Yeah, it was rough when Gil started telling people I wasn’t focused on the band. I mean, I’ll admit, I could be a handful, especially then. We all could. We were young, rich and successful. But I loved being part of The Scene”

TK Grace, 2001 – “I usually stayed out of the songwriting for the most part, but Gil definitely wanted to go heavier than I did on the next album, which isn’t really the type of music I enjoy or I think really suits my voice, so we seemed destined  to butt heads a little”

Stevie “Sticks” Strider, 1997 – “Oh yeah, Gil never did think he got his due, and you know what man, he might be right! He wrote a bunch of songs people liked and still get played today. So with Kyng leaving I think it’s fair to say he thought TK was all that was standing in the way from people seeing how great he was. He underestimated what everyone else brought to the table though. It wasn’t just him, or me, or anybody. It was all of us, there was just something special there.”

How did he leave?

TK Grace, 2005 – “Our manager Nigel was the one who told me, and Gil and I have never talked about it, even after all these years, which is fine. I like to move forward, no regrets, though I do wonder what our legacy would be if we all had stayed together. “

What did he do after?

TK Grace, July, 2011“I was in a bit of a fog, I kind of just followed what (manager Nigel Rodgers) told me to do for a while, and Nigel was a music guy first, so setting me up with my own band in Grace was his first instinct. But I am proud of what we did. Graceland and the other albums, I think they’re pretty good stuff.”

How much did TK regret leaving?

TK Grace, 1993 –  “Now I can’t play too many Scene songs for you, for legal reasons… I know, I know, I wish I could. (Crap), I wish I was still out on stage rocking with Gil, Kyng and the boys now, but it didn’t go that way. But that made me think let’s just get out here and do some kick ass music for the fans and that’s why we have Grace here today!”

Didn’t he do some acting?

From the TK Grace bio on the Nigel Rodgers management group client website:

In 1992 Tk had his biggest acting role to date as the 2nd male lead in the romantic drama Heart In Your Hand.

Made for 20 million, the film grossed 71 million domestically and another 37 million overseas for a total of 108 million USD.

For his part Tk received strong reviews for his performance and was nominated for an Independent Essence Award.

Did he do any more movies?

Heart In Your Hand is his only substantial film role, outside of earlier cameos and a minor scene stealing performance as a hyper coroner in the 1998 action comedy Red Sirens.

Why did he stop acting?

We don’t have a good answer for this as TK rarely talks about it, but this quote may hold a clue. While on the Conor O’Donnell late night talk show promoting his reality show Saving Grace about finding the one true love of his life, TK was asked about a possible reunion of The Scene.

“Nah. You have to be passionate about what you do man. I mean, as an example, try getting told something costs you a job you love and then go and try and find the passion to do it again and you won’t, at least I won’t. Both experiences would leave a sour feeling, you know? I mean you never say never about things, I’ve learned that, but I think that ship has sailed.”
