Bridge 2 – Talking With Kyng Mobb

Transcription of radio interview – KROK Los Angeles

MD – This is Mad Dog Marty B bringing you the best of the new and best of the old. Today I’m proud to welcome a special guest. He’s the lead guitarist of the newly-reunited mega-band The Scene… Kyng Mobb!

KM – Really happy to be here Mad Dog. KROK has always been good to us. Even back in the day when we were new.

MD – Speaking of new, it looked for a while as if a reunion of The Scene was never going to happen. What changed?

KM – They finally offered more money!

MD – (laughing) For real?

KM – Well, you know, money has a lot to do with it, but I think that the real truth is that we’re older. Some of us are wiser, and cooler heads finally prevailed. There’s been a lot of talk for a lot of years, but TK and I sat down and hashed out our differences. Then we pitched it to Jupiter and everything else just fell into place.

MD – Tell me about the tour?

KM – We’re hitting LA first and last. We’re going to do a big circle around North America and then wrap up again in LA. It will be interesting as some of the guys haven’t toured like this in a long time.

MD – I get the feeling you’re talking about Jerry.

KM (Laughs) Maybe.

MD – How about the songs? Will this be a greatest hits tour, or is there any chance of new music?

KM – No chance of new music yet. Maybe down the road, but for now it was hard enough to get us all to agree on touring. We’ll be hitting the first few albums pretty hard and we might pull out a couple from the later albums to please the die-hards, but it will be a pretty rock out good time.

MD – Is there a conscious decision to omit some of the older stuff? It is a lot more serious in tone. But that was the music that the critics accepted a lot more from you.

KM – You know, a lot of our earlier lyrics aren’t very serious. We started out as a party band and I think that lyrically that is what we brought to the table. If you wanted social commentary you had to go elsewhere. I think part of our problem is that we focused too much on that kind of stuff in the early days. But it was what everyone wanted, so we gave it to them.

MD – Are there any songs you aren’t interested in playing live?

KM – Nah, I can play these songs with one hand tied behind my back, so it doesn’t really bother me. The fans want The Scene, the fans get The Scene. As long as I get my solo’s then everything is alright by me.

MD – Any last words for the fans out there Kyng?

KM – Get lots of rest before the show because you’re gonna need it! We could go ALL NIGHT!

MD – The Scene reunion tour starts this Friday at the Clip Center. Tickets are sold out, but stay locked on K-ROK to win your very own seats for the show. Thanks Kyng Mobb, good luck with the tour.

KM – You betcha buddy, talk to you soon.
